about
In recognition of our musical roots, "In Debt" pays tribute to the Black artists and creatives that shaped the direction of modern music and media. Written from the background of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, the lyrics conjure feelings of earnest optimism and passion, supported by Hip-hop, Jazz, Soul and R&B- influenced instrumentation and vocals.
lyrics
Something in the water
Something in these signs
Something ‘bout the rainfall
Something bout these times
Feels like due awakening
Feels like seasons new
Feels like change a-coming
Feels like healing soon
No song for preaching
I’m just glad the tide’s turning away
No song for preaching
I just know we owe it to the race
Who am I to silence
The ones who led from the ones who paved the way
Spoke the words, all I’ll ever say
Who am I to violate
The ones who bred from the world set in stone
Gave me everything, All I’ve ever known
Something in the water
Something in these signs
Something ‘bout the rainfall
Something bout these times
Feels like due awakening
Feels like seasons new
Feels like change a-coming
Feels like healing soon
No song for preaching
I’m just glad the tide’s turning away
No song for preaching
I just know we owe it to the race
